January 2009: HF&H Certified as a Bay Area Green Business

In January 2009, HF&H was certified as a Bay Area Green Business by Contra Costa County. Since 1989, sustainability has been a core value at HF&H, so we were honored to receive this certification as we began celebrating our 20th anniversary. Being a green business is a testament to our efforts to minimize our environmental footprint, and is at the heart of what we do.

Environmentally Preferrable Purchasing Policy

While we generally found that the requirements of the certification program had been part of how HF&H has done business for years, it did offer us several suggestions for how we could take our existing practices to the next level. One of the areas that we found to improve was to formalize an Environmentally Preferrable Purchasing Policy. By establishing an Environmental Preferable Purchasing Policy, we make a commitment to do our part to reduce greenhouse gases associated with manufacturing and transportation, and to keep harmful substances out of the environment.
