Assistant Analyst

General

This position is an entry-level position that operates under the direct supervision of a Senior Associate or Senior Manager.  The Assistant has basic analytical training and skills.

Job Description

Primary assignment to support a practice, under direct supervision, through performance of the following:

   Level of Effort

  • To perform his/her responsibilities, it is estimated that the Assistant will work 2,080 hours or more per year.  Chargeable hours are expected to be approximately 1,456 per year.

   Engagement Management

  • Organize the performance of assigned subtasks.
  • Monitor performance against task plan, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with executives, project managers, clients, and third parties.
  • Prepare and submit timesheets and expense reports on a daily basis.

   Collection of Data

  • Working with client and third party personnel to obtain programmatic, financial, and operational data.
  • Assist in research projects to add to or update in-house resources.
  • Assist in performing national/regional surveys.

   Organization of Data

  • Organization of project work papers.
  • Development of financial models.
  • Drafting of whitepapers, report sections, and client correspondence.

   Analysis of Data

  • Performs analysis under direct supervision.
  • Prepares detailed work paper documentation under supervision.

   Communication of Results

  • Report findings to supervisors.
  • Prepare exhibits used in reports.
  • Assist in report and presentation preparation.

   Other Administrative and Practice Development Duties

  • Assist with proposals.
  • Attendance at industry/training seminars.
  • Assist with the preparation of marketing materials.

   Skill Level

  • Competence in basic analytical and communication skills.

Associate Analyst

General

This position is a transition from the Assistant to the Senior Associate.  The Associate has developed basic analytical and communication skills but is gaining knowledge of the industry while developing technical and project management skills.  This position works under supervision of a Senior Associate or Senior Manager.

Job Description

Primary assignment is to support a practice, under supervision, through performance of the following:

   Level of Effort

  • To perform his/her responsibilities, it is estimated that the Associate will work more than 2,080 hours per year.  Chargeable hours are expected to be approximately 1,456 per year or more.

   Engagement Management

  • Organize the performance of assigned tasks.
  • Monitor performance against task plan, schedule, and budget.
  • Maintain effective working relationships with executives, project managers, clients, and third parties.
  • Prepare and submit timesheets and expense reports on a timely basis.

   Collection of Data

  • Perform research to acquire data to add to or update in-house resources.
  • Perform and manage others’ performance of national and regional surveys.
  • Perform the collection of data and creation of analyses for mathematical accuracy and logical consistency.

   Organization of Data

  • Organization of workpapers.
  • Supervision and development of financial models.

   Analysis of Data

  • Organization of project work papers.
  • Development of financial models.
  • Drafting of whitepapers, report sections, and client correspondence.

   Communication of Results

  • Report findings and recommendations to Executive or Senior Associate/Manager.
  • Prepare draft reports and presentations for Executive or Senior Associate/ Manager’s review.
  • Participate in industry studies.

   Other Administrative and Practice Development Duties

  • Identify practice development opportunities.
  • Assist in the preparation of draft proposals.
  • Assist in the preparation of draft marketing and sales materials.
  • Attend industry/training conferences and seminars.

   Skill Level

  • Technical competence in intermediate analytical techniques.
  • Ability to perform and report his/her own activities in a timely and effective manner.
  • Developing basic practice development skills (e.g., scope expansion, participation in surveys, etc.).

Senior Associate

General

The most senior staff position whose industry knowledge, consulting, and engagement management skills allow him/her to work on several engagements at one time and supervise others, with only general supervision.  This position normally exists in a practice of $500,000 or more.

Job Description

Primary assignment is to perform, under direction of an Executive or Senior Manager, the following:

   Level of Effort

  • To perform his/her responsibilities, it is estimated that the Senior Associate will work 2,200 hours or more per year.  Chargeable hours are expected to be approximately 1,456 per year.

   Engagement Management

  • Supervise several engagements with receipts of up to $300,000, under the direction of an Executive or Senior Manager.
  • Supervise engagements, including supervision of assigned staff, approval of client billing on a timely basis, and the maintainance of client relationships.
  • Prepare draft work plans and approve draft work products, subject to Executive or Senior Manager review.
  • Manage projects and delegate tasks to ensure that your time is no more than 60% of the total hours on projects.

   Collection of Data

  • Supervise data collection by preparing data collection plans, supervising the collection effort and evaluating the accuracy of the data collected.

   Organization of Data

  • Supervision and organization of workpapers.
  • Supervision and development of financial models.

   Analysis of Data

  • Supervises and performs all types of data analysis.

   Communication of Results

  • Prepare reports and presentations subject to Executive or Senior Manager review.
  • Make presentations to clients.
  • Prepare and present industry papers.

   Practice Development and Administrative Duties

  • Assist in the generation of $200,000 or more annually of sales.
  • Assist in practice planning/management and response to RFPs and RFQs.
  • Support the provision of a service and maintenance of markets.
  • Develop and present marketing and sales materials, subject to Executive review.
  • Assist the Executive or Senior Manager with the development of a client network.
  • Draft Associate and Assistant evaluations.
  • Coach and mentor Associates and Assistants.

   Skill Level

  • Competence in one or more areas of the practice to which they are assigned.
  • Ability to perform their assigned tasks at a high level of quality.
  • Ability to supervise and train staff in the performance of tasks.
  • Demonstrated client management and sales skills.

Senior Manager

General

This management position assists the Executive in the development, management, and maintenance of practices of $1,000,000 or more. 

Job Description

The primary assignment is to assist in the expansion of a practice, under general direction of an Executive, through performance of the following:

   Level of Effort

  • To perform his/her responsibilities, it is estimated that the Senior Manager will work 2,300 or more total hours per year.  Chargeable hours are expected to be approximately 1,400 per year.

   Engagement Management

  • Independently manage several engagements with receipts of up to $500,000.
  • Under Executive review, plan engagements to achieve client satisfaction.
  • Independently manage larger engagements or several engagements at one time, and supervise staff performance, approve billings (on a timely basis) and enhance client relationships.
  • Prepare work plans and approve work products, subject to Executive review.
  • Manage projects and delegate tasks to ensure that your time is no more than 40% of the total hours on projects

   Collection of Data

  • Determine format and design of data collection projects and supervise data collection by preparing data collection plans and evaluating the accuracy of the data collected.

   Organization of Data

  • Supervision and organization of workpapers.
  • Supervision and development of financial models.

   Analysis of Data

  • Determine and direct the analysis guidelines and procedures, and evaluate compliance accuracy and consistency.

   Communication of Results

  • Development and presentation of reports and presentations, under Executive Direction.
  • Presentation of innovative solutions to clients’ problems.
  • Prepare and present industry papers.

   Practice Development and Administrative Duties

  • Assist in the generation of $300,000, or more, annually of receipts.
  • Assist in practice planning/management and response to RFPs and RFQs.
  • Primary responsibility for a development/ provision of a service or new geographic market.
  • Develop and present marketing and sales materials, subject to Executive review.
  • Develop client relationships and build ongoing relationships.
  • Prepare staff evaluations and review personal plans, under Executive review.
  • Coach and mentor Associates and Assistants.

   Skill Level

  • Competence in all areas of the practice to which they are assigned.
  • Demonstrated quality control ability.
  • Demonstrated staff and engagement management competence.
  • Ability to support sales and practice development efforts.

Executive

General

Executives are expected to develop, manage, and maintain practices of $800,000, or more.

Job Description

The primary assignment is to develop, maintain, and manage a practice through the performance of the following:

   Level of Effort

  • To perform his/her responsibilities, it is estimated that the Executive will work 2,500 total hours or more per year.  Chargeable hours are expected to be not less than 1,352 per year.

   Engagement Management

  • Independently manage a practice with average annual receipts of $800,000, or more.
  • Plan engagements to achieve client satisfaction.
  • Independently manage and monitor the practice’s engagements, motivating and supervising staff performance, and building ongoing client relationships.
  • Review work plans and approve work products.
  • Manage projects and delegate tasks to ensure that your time is no more than 30% of the total hours on projects

   Collection of Data

  • Determine format and design of data collection projects.

   Organization of Data

  • Supervision and organization of work papers.
  • Supervision and development of financial models.

   Analysis of Data

  • Determine and direct the analysis guidelines and procedures and evaluate compliance, accuracy, and consistency.

   Communication of Results

  • Development and presentation of reports.
  • Presentation of innovative solutions to clients’ problems.
  • Prepare and present industry papers.

   Practice Development and Administrative Duties

  • Generate more than $800,000 annually of receipts.
  • Practice planning and management.
  • Develop and present marketing and sales materials.
  • Prepare staff evaluations and review personal plans.
  • Develop client relationships and build ongoing relationships.
  • Develop Senior Associates and Senior Managers.

   Skill Level

  • Demonstrated industry reputation with many strong client relationships.
  • A very high level of technical competence in all practice areas.
  • Demonstrated high level of engagement management ability.
  • Demonstrated practice development skills.
